What is Gohayó?
Gohayó is the original indigenous name of the island of São Vicente off the coast of São Paulo, where today the cities of São Vicente and Santos are located.
"The story told on my album is real"

In Portugal, in 1498, Cosme Fernandes was a very active and chatty 18 year old Jewish dreamer who refused to convert to Christianity and fought for his rights until he was condemned to be exiled on the coast of the new world more precisely in the region from Iguape. He embarked on Bartolomeu Dias' expedition almost as a slave.
Thrown by chance in the sea of Icaparra, he not only survives nature but also not very friendly Indians. However, he did not have the company of former residents of the region who were Spanish and Irish shipwrecked or also exiled.
Gaining everyone's trust, he soon received the mission to go to Gohayó, a well-known indigenous village that lives isolated in lands surrounded by mangroves, sea and bays protected by a strategic topography.

The story begins with him praying on one of the vessels on Bartholomeu Dias' expedition. He still did not know of his punishment as an exile, but he knew that he would know the New World and felt that something was coming.
As they pass through the Iguape region, he is thrown into the sea after reading his conviction.
The exact place was the sea of Icapara, where the river meets the sea in turbulent waters. Tired of struggling and trying to survive, he collapses when he reaches the sand of the small beach.
At that moment, he remembers a minstrel of the king who sang a song about such an exile in the streets of the port and smiled as he passed him with a mocking air.

Cosme is hastily rescued by men there, Indians and Spaniards who were married to Indians in the region.
Cosme falls in love and marries the daughter of Chief Piquerobi and for him says that there is a difficult place for boats to dock and says that to prosper he would need a place with calmer and less dangerous waters.
With their help and more and more in love with the place where the new world was, they went to Gohayó.
Arriving at Gohayó, they are well received and Cosme studies the flat lands surrounded by mountains, the bays, the Indians and is convinced that there could be the perfect place for fortifications and points for strategic lighthouses. They have parties, celebrate and there they decide to stay and build, in perfect communion with the Indians, a city and a port well sheltered in calm waters. The Porto Das Naus.
With the lighthouses running and the trajectory of the expeditions more and more on the backs of the now Terra de Santa Cruz, merchants began to arrive and the fame of Gohayó took on great proportions until it reached the ears of the court that the exile had built there.
A new official expedition is sent that maps and names the place as São Vicente Island, but only 30 years after the then-appointed Governor Martim Afonso De Souza was sent there to expel Cosme Fernandes from those lands and finish his exile in the Iguape region.
Cosme Fernandes, betrayed by his partners João Ramalho and Antonio Rodrigues, flees back to Iguape and decides to create a new city further south and calls it Cananéia (an allusion to Canaã).

Some say that Cosme returned to Gohayó (São Vicente) after capturing a French privateer along with Ruy Garcia De Moschera, winning what came to be known as "The War of Iguape" and attacking the city of São Vicente destroying everything, including the documents after learning that Martim Afonso had abandoned the region he built.

There are those who know that Martim Afonso De Sousa himself ordered to destroy everything and everyone who knew the story that Cosme Fernandes could not have known that a Jew would prosper in those lands so easily, putting Cosme Fernandes' head at a premium forcing them to flee Cananéia without know their whereabouts.
